Introduction
Scoutsity (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates an events, gigs and social platform for Nigeria. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Scoutsity, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it. By using Scoutsity you agree to the practices described here.
Information We Collect
Depending on how you use the platform, we may collect:
- Account details — your name, email address, phone number, password (stored only as a secure hash), profile photo and account type (Sitizen, Sitadel or Venue).
- Event & ticket activity — events you create, host, watch or attend; tickets you buy and their QR/scan status; squads you join; quizzes, polls and competitions you take part in.
- Wallet & gems — your in-app balance, gem activity, transactions and, if you choose to add them, payout bank details for withdrawing ticket sales.
- Location — the city or area you set or search by so we can surface events near you. We do not track precise background location.
- Device, cookies & analytics data — basic technical information (browser, device, approximate region) and, only with your consent, analytics about how the app is used.
- Anything you choose to share — content you post, messages you send to hosts, and support requests you contact us with.
How We Use Your Information
We use the data above to:
- Create and secure your account and sign you in.
- Sell and deliver tickets, run check-in/scanning, and operate squads, gigs, quizzes and competitions.
- Process payments and payouts, and keep an accurate wallet and transaction history.
- Send you essential service messages — ticket confirmations, event reminders and account notices.
- Show you relevant events and improve the platform.
- Prevent fraud, enforce our Terms, and comply with our legal obligations.
Cookies & Analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in and to keep the platform working. Optional analytics — which help us understand what’s useful and what to fix — load only after you accept them in the consent banner shown at the bottom of the site. If you decline, no analytics are loaded; you can change your mind at any time by clearing the site’s stored choice. Essential cookies needed to run the service cannot be switched off.
Payments
Card and bank payments are processed by our payment partner, Paystack. When you pay for a ticket or receive a payout, the relevant details are handled by Paystack under its own privacy policy and security standards. Scoutsity does not store your full card number. We keep only the transaction records needed to confirm your purchase, run your wallet and support you.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only where needed to run the service:
- With event hosts — organizers of an event you attend can see the information necessary to admit you and manage their event (for example your name and ticket status).
- With service providers — payment (Paystack), media hosting, email delivery and, with your consent, analytics providers, strictly to perform those functions.
- For legal reasons — where required by law, regulation, or a valid request from a competent authority, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the platform.
Data Retention
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active and for as long afterwards as we need it to meet legal, accounting, dispute-resolution and fraud-prevention obligations. When it is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
Your Rights Under the NDPA
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA) 2023 you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to request deletion, to object to or restrict certain processing, to withdraw consent (for example for analytics) at any time, and to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below and we will respond within the timeframe required by law.
Data Security
We protect your data with industry-standard measures — encrypted connections, hashed passwords and access controls. No online service can be perfectly secure, but we work continuously to safeguard your information and will notify you and the relevant authority of a breach where the law requires it.
Children’s Privacy
Scoutsity is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves or the law changes. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, take reasonable steps to let you know.
